| Police Communications Center, Houston, Texas - As a part of Houston's $12 million communications improvement program, BJY designed a five-story Police Communications Center. Included in the new structure are administrative offices, conference rooms, and areas for the facility's two Univac computer systems. A large dispatch room contains extensive electronic equipment including a large display screen and numerous computer-connected cathode ray tubes.
Rehabilitation and Addition to Harris County Criminal Courts Facilities, Harris County Commissioners Court, Houston, Texas - BJY provided complete A/E design and construction administration for retrofit of the Criminal Courts Building basement. Services included providing single- and multiple-prisoner holding areas for up to 200 persons; a control station with two-way communication to the county jail; medical aid station; pantry service area; sally port; vehicle wash area; evidence storage room; and newly designed fire protection and security systems. BJY has experience in various communities throughout Texas for combined detention, law enforcement and court facilities. Walker County Jail, Huntsville, Texas - A new jail was designed to contain three basic zones: housing; operation and control; and administration. The housing area is composed of six cell block modules in two wings separated by an exercise courtyard. Five modules contain eight single-occupancy cells and a day room, while the sixth cell block is for female and juvenile offenders. The facility was designed in accordance with State Jail Standards. Rehabilitation of the Municipal Prison Farm, Houston, Texas - BJY performed a comprehensive renovation of the main jail building at the Prison Farm, with emphasis on the roof and MEP systems. The project included installation of security lighting fixtures.
Brooke Army Medical Center, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, San Antonio, Texas - Comprehensive life safety upgrade and A/E design of three major facilities serving 94,000 personnel. Renovations provided for 362-bed pavilion, 212-bed main hospital and 58-bed psychiatric unit. |
Harris County Jail, Harris County Commissioners Court, Houston, Texas - The 13-story and basement-level building was designed by BJY to meet the newly adopted state standards for correctional facility construction, maintenance and operations. The building includes education and vocational areas, a library, recreational facilities, a 130-bed hospital, and extensive kitchen and laundry facilities. Modular cell blocks allow conversion flexibility of housing configurations to meet changing population and standard requirements. Security includes advanced technology electronic surveillance systems and about 500 tons of jail detention equipment. A tunnel connects the jail to the nearby County Court Building.
Police and Fire Station, El Campo, Texas - The firm provided full A/E services for the design and construction of a new fire and police station. The facility includes jail cells, interrogation rooms, fire and police dispatch rooms, kitchen, bunk rooms, police locker rooms, lounge, training and squad rooms and administrative support areas. Chambers County Court-house Annex and Jail, Anahuac, Texas - This project included jail cells for 87 inmates, interrogation and booking areas, administrative space for law enforcement personnel and a Justice of the Peace court. Special consideration was given to blending the courthouse complex with an adjacent library and historic buildings. Project includes both adult and juvenile detention units, security-glazed windows, electronic security/ monitoring, inmate processing, Sheriff's offices and court facilities. Texas Research Institute for Mental Sciences, Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Houston, Texas - This new intensive treatment facility was designed to meet several objectives in connection with research and treatment of mental health and retardation problems.
Veterans Administration, Research and Education Building, Houston, Texas - This medical research laboratory facility was designed for research in biochemistry, cardiology, culture development, infectious disease, metabolism and other health topics.
